In the beginning, some anonymous Microsoft engineer created the Image Resizer Powertoy for Windows XP. It was a wildly popular PowerToy that allowed you to bulk resize image files so they could all fit on your 1.44 MB floppy disk or be uploaded using you 56 kbps dial-up modem. Life was good in our plastic XP world.

It uses progressive encoding to match modern standards, as a result, RIOT drastically reduces the file size of your image as per the set image quality. Multiple images with larger sizes can be compressed in one go with the batch option.

Apart from its popular painting and photo editing features, Microsoft Paint also offers decent picture resizing options and the ability to open and saves files in various output image formats i.e. Windows bitmap (BMP), JPEG, GIF, PNG, and single-page TIFF formats.

It is quite handy to use Chrome Extensions for Picture resizing. Chrome Extensions are light in size and work very fast, above all they can quickly rescale images offline. Here are the best Image Resizer extensions for the Chrome browser.

A very useful list of free tools! After reading it through I wondered if I have some similar software on my Windows 10 and I found it! Before I always used Photoshop to resize images and you know how much time it takes! Though I use a different tool, thank you for the idea!

Not so long ago, now defunct Windows XP offered a set of PowerToys which performed interesting and useful tasks. Arguably the most useful PowerToy was Image Resizer. One quick right-click on an image (or batch of images) and you could resize it to something easier to send by e-mail. So if you needed to make a large set of images smaller so a client or model could review them, for instance, the little program was fast, clean and superb.Later versions of Windows made this useful tool obsolete, and Windows users had to do without until Brice Lambson resurrected it.

BatchPhoto is a PC tool designed to resize photos in bulk. This editor is powerful enough to process hundreds of pictures at the same time and is quite easy to use thanks to its three-step wizard concept. All you have to do is drag and drop your photos, make the necessary edits in the second step and select the image format and destination folder in the last step.

BatchPhoto allows you to adjust the size of your images using either pixels or percentage. Just select the Resize filter and then type in the preferred values for the width and/or height. The tool also places at your disposal an advanced option, which allows you to adjust the document size and DPI resolution. If you want to go deeper, you have plenty of features to choose from: you can convert (includes extensive RAW support), crop, rotate, watermark or date stamp photos, as well as apply special effects and make numerous image adjustments.

PhotoSize offers other useful features as well, such as the possibility to crop and rotate images, adjust the contrast, brightness or saturation or add artistic effects such as black and white, sepia or charcoal.

ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate is a complex photo editing software that provides batch processing capabilities. In order to resize multiple images at once, you have to enter the Manage mode. The next step is to select your images and then go to Tools > Batch >Resize. In the new dialog box you can choose how to resize your pictures: to a percentage of their original size, to a certain size expressed in pixels or to specific print dimensions.

FILEminimizer Pictures is a program developed to help you considerably reduce the size of your photos. With this tool you can compress your images by up to 98%, which means you can shrink a 12.5 MB file to only 0.25 MB and hence gain major disk space. FILEminimizer Pictures comes with four compression levels: strong, standard, low and a last level that enables you to customize the compression according to your preferences.

Photo Resizer gives you the possibility to optimize images individually or in bulk. The app is intuitively designed and comes with a main window that offers a side by side comparison of the original and modified image. There are three main options available: crop, resize and compress.

At this time, there are no known datastores that are incompatible with the image resizer, although some may require a plugin to access. If you have a datastore not listed here, read about custom plugin development

ImageResizer is the result of 9 years of continual refinement, with a focus on security, stability, and image quality. Thousands of popular websites rely on ImageResizer; some with millions of pageviews each day, like Sierra Trading Post, MSN, and eBay.

Image Resizer 2.0 is a clone of an original Image Resizer Powertoy build for Windows XP. This clone has been created to extend the support to non-XP and 64-bit versions of Windows (including Windows Vista and Windows 7). What are Powertoys? They are additional programs that developers work on after a product has been released. This tool adds Image Resizer in the Windows right-click context menu making it easier to resize an image with a click of a button.

It does not change the image format of the image, but simply resizes them. You can also batch resize images by selecting multiple images at the same time. I tested this on Windows 7 and it worked like a charm.

I have high hopes for this! Having recently upgraded to Win 7 x64 I was mortified to discover MS had simply dropped all concept of Powertoys. They had a great library full of usful stuff for XP! I had hoped that things like batch image resizing would have been worked into the OS by now, but no. Thank God for third party developers! 2ff7e9595c
